While Billy and I met each other for the first time after college, we actually grew up just miles apart and even attended the same high school, though not at the same time. I had known his sister, Sara, through our mutual friend, Dan, and though I hadn't seen either in many years, I suddenly found myself in the same group of friends, which is how I ultimately met Billy.
For over a year, Billy and I weren't much more than casual acquaintances. We had the same friends and saw each other often, but there was nothing there besides the same fun and laughter that we each shared with all the others. In the summer of 2009, though, we suddenly found ourselves feeling much more, as if out of nowhere...
As I'm a bit infatuated with cooking and baking, it's no surprise that I used to offer to bake a cake for each of my friends' birthdays, Billy being no exception. So, when his 29th birthday came around, I asked if he wanted one. Weeks had gone by without seeing each other, so when it came down to the week before Billy's birthday, I decided to shoot him a message, asking if he still wanted me to make the cake. Somehow, that simple question turned into an entire day of texting. I sat in my cubicle trying to stealthily send text after text until I got out of work, and it continued at home until almost two in the morning. The days following were exactly the same and the trend would simply continue on Facebook. It turned out that we had a lot in common and got along really well, but had never realized it considering our relationship, until that point, had been simple goofing around between casual friends.
We couldn't stop talking to each other, day and night, but didn't actually start dating until mid-summer, when Billy finally asked me on a date. Both Sam Raimi fans, we went to the AMC Forum to see Drag me to Hell and then spent some time playing at a local arcade, Dave and Buster, where Billy planted his first kiss on me! Within a few months, we moved in together and just after that first year alone in an upstairs apartment with our rambunctious puppy, Dookie, I found myself pregnant. It was a very unexpected circumstance, but perfectly welcomed because we'd known, from the very start, that we'd get married one day! It was just a matter of when...
Nine weeks after our little Gianna was born, Billy finally popped the question (which I'd, honestly, expected a year and a half earlier!), creating the start of our journey toward finally being able to call each other husband and wife.
